POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a full-time role on the Operations Team, reporting to the Executive Pastor of Arts. For this role, you'll need to live in or near Columbus, OH, and be willing to work in the offices at X Church. Typical hours for this role are 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday, 7am-1pm Sunday, and on occasion, there is a need to work additional hours on evenings and weekends during special events throughout the year.
MISSION
The mission of the Communication Director is to own the strategy and execution of how X Church communicates to the people we serve. Sitting within Operations, this role serves as an advocate between Ministry and Creative, ensuring that every event, initiative, and campaign is communicated with clarity, consistency, and excellence. The Communication Director will drive strategy across our communication channels and build the systems that help our teams communicate well, all to help people get on the path to God.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communication Director will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Communication Strategy: Owns and drives the overall external communication strategy for X Church. Studies strong organizations to continually raise the standard of how we communicate. Builds and refines systems that help staff communicate more effectively with their ministries, teams, and servant leaders.
- Cross-Team Coordination: Serves as the bridge between Ministry and Creative. Maintains a forward view of upcoming events and initiatives and ensures the appropriate teams are aware and equipped to communicate them well.
- Email & Direct Communication: Owns and grows our direct communication channels, including our recurring emails. Drives strategy and growth of what we currently do, moving beyond logistics to include spiritual and engaging content that connects well.
- Channel Management: Oversees website, app, and text communication, ensuring messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned across every channel.
- Campaign Communication: Leads communication for campaigns and initiatives, including giving strategy, first-time guest strategy, and other special campaigns.
- Content Direction: Drives strategy and execution rather than creating all content directly. Pulls and shapes content from Ministry and Creative teams into a unified voice.

- Writing & Messaging: Strong writing skills with the ability to shape logistics into clear, engaging, and meaningful content.
- Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills, working closely with Ministry and Creative teams to gather and unify content.
- Organization & Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple campaigns and communication timelines with excellence.
- Advocacy: Ability to sit between Ministry and Creative, representing both well and keeping communication clear on behalf of the person in the seat.
- Innovation & Adaptability: Willingness to study best practices and explore new ways to raise the standard of communication.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience
- 3+ years in a communication, marketing, or related role in a church, nonprofit, or organizational environment.
- Physical
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift boxes and office supplies up to 30lbs.
